An IP rating consists of two digits:
First digit: protection against solid foreign objects / dust
First Digit | Meaning |
0 | No protection |
1 | Protected against objects 50 mm in diameter or larger |
2 | Protected against objects 12.5 mm in diameter or larger |
3 | Protected against objects 2.5 mm in diameter or larger |
4 | Protected against objects 1.0 mm in diameter or larger |
5 | Dust-protected: dust ingress is not completely prevented, but it does not interfere with normal operation |
6 | Dust-tight: completely protected against dust ingress |
Second digit: water protection rating
Second Digit | Meaning |
0 | No protection |
1 | Protected against vertically falling water drops |
2 | Protected against dripping water when the enclosure is tilted by 15° |
3 | Protected against spraying water |
4 | Protected against splashing water |
5 | Protected against water jets |
6 | Protected against powerful water jets |
7 | Protected against temporary immersion |
8 | Protected against continuous immersion |
9 / 9K | Protected against high-temperature, high-pressure water jets |
Industry reference:
• IP65: dust-tight + protected against water jets; suitable for installation inside general construction-machinery cabs
• IP67: dust-tight + protected against temporary immersion; suitable for outdoor operations, mobile elevating work platforms, and agricultural machinery
• IP69K: protected against high-pressure hot-water cleaning; suitable for food processing, vehicle washing, and other special applications
Note: A higher IP rating is not always better. Higher ratings impose greater requirements on sealing processes and cost. Select the rating according to the actual installation location.
▶ HAIMOOO Note: HAIMOOO electronic joysticks support up to IP67 protection for their electronic components. Sealing solutions can be customized to project requirements without redesigning the entire machine.
